The face of the high-quality press. International information on the front pages of Europe’s main papers

Abstract

As media looking to explain the ways of the world to their readership day after day, a significant feature of world-class daily newspapers is their proper treatment, both quantity and quality-wise, of international information. Since the front page of those daily papers stands as an «open window» on their intentions, this work seeks to analyze to what extent 14 of the main european newspapers can be deemed international. And although there is no such thing as a list of high-quality papers, nor a minimal percentage of international content for a print medium to be considered as such, the present study will seek to figure out these intentions, by focusing on each newspaper’s main «showcase».
