Abstract

This paper seeks to show the contribution of La Verdad newspaper to the beginnings of democracy in the Región of Murcia between January and June 1977. Analysing of the contents of 42 leaders reveals the newspaper’s discourse during months which were critical for Spain because of the dangerous threats during the «black week» and the legalisation of the Communist Party. Over this period the newspaper defended the ongoing political reform. It introduced the new democratic values and favoured the creation of the UCD Party in Murcia.
