Abstract

This work approaches the study of a singular publication made in the journalistic Spanish exile after the Civil war of 1936-1939. It is the political and literary weekly newspaper L’Espagne Républicaine edited by the politician and journalist Ricardo Gasset Alzugaray in Toulouse and Paris between June, 1945 and May, 1949. The personality of his promoter makes this newspaper, first of all, a tenacious publishing determination to support, in the middle of a few enormously difficult circumstances, the best journalistic tradition previous to the War, which had integrated the so called Age of Gold of the Spanish Journalism. It shows, likewise, how on this publishing adventure there converge several professional and political elements of the liberal Spanish past that are called to have a wide projection in the future.
