Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a Journalistic Content in the Spanish Local Press: the case of Alicante’s newspaper Información

This study analyses the frequency and evolution of the term “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) in Información, a local daily newspaper in the province of Alicante, Spain, over a decade (2014-2024). Through a comprehensive hemerographic archive analysis of print editions, it examines how artificial intelligence has transitioned from a marginal concept to a central topic in the local press. The research reveals a significant increase in the presence of the term, reflecting the growing importance of AI in public debate. The results show patterns of increase in the mention of the term, coinciding with relevant milestones in AI development. This study contributes to the understanding of how local media construct the discourse on AI and its temporal evolution, offering insights into the public perception of this technology in a specific local context.
