Abstract

In 2005, TDT is relaunched in Spain. It brings with a progressive increase of the hours spent watching TV reaching the historical record of 246 minutes per person day in 2012. It is because of the channel proliferation brought by the TDT and the recession with the increase of the level of unemployment and of the free time at the same time. However, the hours spent watching TV go down since 2012 until 230 minutes per person day in 2016. The aim of this article is to study the reasons for this change in the trend and the influence in different issues, such as the advertising investment. We use an analyticdescriptive methodology based in the reports of GECA, Barlovento, INE, Infoadex and AEMET. Also, we use bibliography and websites. We prove how the economic situation, the uniformity of TV contents and climatology have influence in the descend of the hours spent watching TV, although television keeps its supremacy.
