Abstract

This article deals with the function of the Spanish and French States in the context of their relations with the press within the digital environment. Accordingly, the study analyzes to what extent both States have responded to publishers’ requests for incentives. At the same time the States’ role in the digital media area is examined, as is the importance they give to development of the online press. A markedly different response from the two countries to said requests from publishers can be observed, although in both cases the State has assumed the role of mediator in the digital environment with respect to relations between the Press and Google.
