Focus and scope
The thematic core of the journal is communication and, within the broad concept of communication, journalism is an area of special interest. However, considering the importance of communication today, we welcome papers that present scientific research results from different perspectives on communication, such as the media, audiovisual technologies, digital communication and social networks, the impact and use of digital platforms in the dissemination of information and audience building, artificial intelligence and disinformation, among others.
Reports, studies, proposals and review manuscripts (state-of-the-art articles) that, within the established context of peer review, represent a quality contribution in the field of Social Sciences and, more specifically, Communication, are also accepted. As well as works of empirical value and research articles that provide innovative ideas and original advances, giving preference to those contributions that represent an advance in knowledge.
The journal aims to become a benchmark in the dissemination of rigorous research that promotes critical reflection and the development of new methodologies, practices and approaches in communication. It also seeks to foster dialogue between academics, professionals and students at a global level, ensuring the dissemination of studies that can have an impact in both the theoretical and practical spheres.
In this sense, support will preferably be given to works focused from qualitative, analytical, interpretative and critical perspectives; nevertheless, contributions made from quantitative methodologies will be accepted, as long as they provide theoretical and/or critical conclusions of interest for the scientific and hermeneutic knowledge of Communication and the knowledge of the media and media discourses, especially valuing that the data provided are statistically relevant and that their indicative value is not subject to an early temporary expiration.
Textual & Visual Media is a biannual, open-access publication that does not impose any fees on authors or readers and publishes digitally, universally and free of charge in PDF, HTML and ePUB formats. Papers are accepted in Spanish, English and Portuguese. The scope of the journal is international.
