The spreading of low cost journalism in local press and its risks

Abstract

The increasing prominence of local press departments and others public services in local areas and the spectacular reduction of prices in technological costs has multiplied the volume of local information produced in Spain during last 12 years. Th is factor and the progressive increment of new graduates in communication has made possible the creation of a lot of new mass media in local areas, specially on the web. But all of this has been possible destroying the essence of the journalism: the editor goes to look for the main character of the new, gets the information trough diff erent sources, contrast and publishes it. In the opposite, in the low cost journalism the editor copy exactly the press release or the text of the news agency considering good the information and publish without any other consideration.
