Abstract

Last decade has been characterized by an incessant number of media in crisis that have been brought to a end of business. This crisis has been a trigger for the emergence of new media. Most are digital natives, often are small newsrooms and seeking a diversification of income in their business model. This research focuses its object on the nature of these new media, those created in the period 2014-2016 and from the perspective of how the user’s participation is used. From a significant sample of cybermedia, we study with a content analysis the integration of participation in the phases of the journalistic process, from even the collective ideation of the medium to the social distribution of its contents. The results show how from a conception of journalism as a community service and not as a mere product, participation is a useful axis to analyze the new media.
