Editorial Process

General information

  • Biannual journal (June and December), open since 2008 under the Spanish Society of Journalism, with articles in Spanish, English or Portuguese, subject to double-blind review.
  • Open access, free of charge during the whole process (revision, layout, publication).

1. Sending originals

  • Compulsory registration on the web platform.
  • Unpublished articles on journalism and communication in neo-Latin or English languages.
  • The manuscript must conform to the official template (LibreOffice is recommended) and three files must be sent:
    • Manuscript with author data (in first file).
    • Anonymised manuscript.
    • Affidavit + biography (3-4 lines).

2. Manuscript structure and style

  • Title page: title in original + English (max. 2 lines), authors, affiliations, mailing address.
  • Abstract (150 words) and 5 keywords in each language.
  • Text: 5 000-8 000 words all inclusive; division into up to three levels of coloured headings per template.
  • Figures: sent separately, resolution ≥300 dpi, JPG/PNG/TIFF/EPS formats, duly numbered with font and permissions.
  • Tables: numbered (max. 6), with title and font note, not to occupy more than one vertical page.
  • Citations: Harvard style (in-text) and references in APA 7th ed., with DOI or URL without abbreviations.
  • Language: use of spellchecker, RAE, DPD, inclusive, italics for foreign words, without modifying the style of the textualvisualmedia.com template.

3. Assessment and review

  • Double blind peer review by external reviewers is applied.
  • Evaluation committee decides on acceptance.
  • Review by reviewers: confidentiality, impartiality, quality review, bibliography and deadlines.
  • Editing by the team: no commercial influence, in case of discrepancy a third reviewer is used.
  • Indicative timeframe: ~1 month for initial decision; up to 3 months for final decision.
  • Turnitin similarity check; reports >20% are reported; plagiarism or misconduct results in rejection or retraction.

4.Ethics, authorship and transparency

  • Adheres to COPE guidelines.
  • Authorship declaration (according to CRediT/ICMJE): contribution roles, order of signature according to SDC approach.
  • Declaration of conflicts of interest, funding, originality and legal responsibility.
  • In case of misconduct (fabrication, duplication, manipulation) authors and their institutions are contacted and can be marked as ‘retracted’.

5. Reviewer certification

Reviewers can obtain internal or external certificates:

  • Internal certificate signed by the journal editor.
  • Registration in Web of Science (Reviews of WOS).
  • Accreditation through Reviewer Credits.

6. Monographs

  • We accept proposals for monographic issues (2-3 thematic editors) with rigorous external evaluation.
  • Process: submission of proposal → response within 30 days → videoconference → launch of call for papers → review → selection → layout and publication.
